You’ve seen the sugar cookie bars all over Pinterest, haven’t you?  I’ve had those, and while they are delicious, I have a twist on the recipe for the holidays.  There is a secret ingredient in the frosting that puts them over the edge of glory: Candy Cane Hershey’s Kisses.   Get your little ones to unwrap the kisses (the hardest part of the cookies!), and these are no sweat.    Serve these to Santa and you’ll for sure be on the NICE list!

Candy Cane Sugar Cookie Bars

1 cup room temperature butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
5 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Frosting:
1 cup room temperature butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
pinch of salt
4 cups powdered sugar
5 tablespoons milk
1 bag Hershey’s Peppermint White Chocolate Kisses

With an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, mixing after each egg. Add vanilla & mix well. In a separate bowl combine flour, salt and baking soda with a whisk. Add flour mixture to the mixing bowl a little at a time, and mix until just combined.

Spread dough onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-15 min, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool before frosting.

Frosting: Mix butter with an electric mixer until smooth. Add vanilla and salt. Add powdered sugar in small amounts until combined, then add milk and mix until smooth. Unwrap Hershey’s Kisses and grind them up in a food processor. Add Kisses crumbs to frosting and mix to combine. Frost cookie bars and cut into large squares.
