Purple Hull Peas.  Along with okra, they scream SUMMER to me.  And the kids like them, go figure!

By the way, they are called Purple Hull because the pods are purple. So pretty.

We had the most Southern meal.  Garden fresh tomatoes, purple hull peas, fresh corn on the cobb, and cornbread (missing from photo).  Nothing fancy, but these beautiful ingredients made the perfect meal.

Slow Cooker Purple Hull Peas

purple hull peas, shelled
1 small onion
chicken stock to cover
salt and pepper to taste

Cook peas on low for 6-8 hours.  Remove onion, and serve with rice or cornbread.  A dash of tabasco is great, too.
